BECCA WILLISON

About me + Leo Milo

Hi! I'm Becca, the lead designer and founder of Leo Milo Interior Design. In 2015, I graduated from Kent State University in Ohio with an accredited degree in Interior Design and quickly moved back to my childhood home city of Virginia Beach, Virginia to pursue my career. Over the past few years, I have been working along other very talented designers in the area to grow my hands-on knowledge in the field of design.

Many people have asked where I came up with the name Leo Milo for this company. Funny story - it actually came from my baby book under the lists of names I would have been given if I were a boy. It was my dad's choice and growing up I always joked that I was so pleased that I wasn't a boy and that Leo Milo wasn't my name! In 2019, my dad lost his 18-month battle with pancreatic cancer. When deciding on a name for my company, I wanted to find something that was both unique and would honor him for all of the hard work and love he put into nurturing my dreams and ambitions. Cue the birth of Leo Milo Interiors!

Q&A

What drives you to design?

Over the past few years, I've thought a bit about what made me fall in love with interior design. As a child, I always had an interest in rearranging furniture and a draw to fabrics and home magazines. As an adult, I've realized how much a well designed space can positively effect your mood and well being. I've become fascinated with learning what makes people feel the most peaceful, or motivated, or rejuvenated and creating spaces that evoke health and happiness.

From where do you draw most of your inspiration?

When designing a space, I tend to draw inspiration by finding a piece that my client truly loves and let it begin to tell a story. This could be art or fabric or maybe a vase from their grandmother. These pieces can be places to take away style, colors schemes, and ideas for materiality in the room. Some of my favorite pieces are found in nature. I once used a floral arrangement as a guide to shapes, colors, and textures for the design of a room!

We know you love designing, but what about it do you love most?

My favorite part of design is seeing a vision come to life. There's something immensely satisfying about holding a piece of fabric and imaging it as a pillow or drapery and then seeing it fabricated and placed in your client's home. I always love seeing how these things transform a space and bring the homeowners more joy than they expected!
